Greg has designed 95% of the projects he's built since 1979. His clients are always amazed with his creativity, sense of design, and his capability to compose exactly what they were looking for, and more. Greg attributes his success with his ability to listen and fully understand the client's needs, as well as his talent of being able to visualize space. He is an old school designer and still uses a drafting board, mechanical arm, and lead pencils to actually draw his plans. He says that having a pencil in his hand makes him feel like a true artist, molding the approach for the next residential masterpiece he's going to build. Greg says that as he's creating a floor plan he's actually able to envision the areas within the design. He's never surprised with the appearance of a completed project, as he has walked through it a hundred times in his mind during its inception.
Greg admits that remodeling designs take the most thought, "Not only do you need to stay within the parameters of the existing architecture, you have heating and cooling systems, electrical wiring, lighting, plumbing, foundations, and all the original structure to deal with." Greg thrives on the challenge of building a second story or room addition. He takes pride in having the success that each remodeling project appears to have been built with the original house.
With all of his years of hands on construction experience, Greg has gained an innate sense of structural engineering. Having built in so many different areas of San Diego, he understands that building conditions can change radically from neighborhood to neighborhood. Because California leads the nation in seismic building code requirements, Greg is always on the front lines, implementing the latest and most cost effective methods. Greg has been quoted as saying, "Be sure to run into the room addition in the event of an earthquake!"
Greg's design philosophy is to listen to the client. He states, "There is no room for my ego when designing someone else's environment. My job is to take the client's ideas and make them work. Of course I'll make suggestions and give them alternatives or solutions to make something structurally feasible or esthetically pleasing to the eye, but at the same time, if the client wants to build a 50-foot high pink lighthouse, I'm not the guy for them. I put my reputation on the line for every project I design and or build I will draw the line."
Greg will
also be more than happy to give you an estimate on building your project designed
by someone else. Be prepared, though, because he'll scrutinize your plans
with a magnifying glass and find all the missing links and mistakes.
